Premium fabric deserves five extra minutes of care — and rewards you with clothes soft enough to hand down. Here's the routine we recommend for every Minko piece.
Washing
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, with like colours, using a mild detergent. Cold water protects both the fibres and the colours; hot water is the fastest way to age a beautiful fabric. Skip bleach entirely — even on whites, it weakens cotton and irritates delicate skin.
Knitwear needs a gentler hand
Hand wash cardigans and sweaters in cool water, or use a wool cycle, and never wring them. Press the water out between towels and dry flat, reshaping while damp — hanging a wet knit is what stretches shoulders out of shape.
Padded jackets
Wash winter coats zipped and fully closed so the filling stays put, then shake the jacket every so often as it dries to keep the loft even.
Drying
Dry flat in the shade where possible. Direct sun fades colour, and tumble-drying on high heat shrinks natural fibres. If you must tumble, use the lowest setting and remove while slightly damp.
Pressing
Press on low heat, inside out. Muslin actually looks lovely slightly crinkled — that's its character — so an iron is optional there.
Stains, gently
Milk, mash, and mystery marks respond best to a cold-water soak within the hour, then a dab of mild soap. Rubbing hard damages fibres more than the stain ever will.
